Self serve password resets are coming soon

Written by Bryan Parsons | Aug 14, 2020 7:10:07 AM

Self-serve password resets have been possible in Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) for a while but due to some security risks we have not enabled them for customers, instead using a more secure route we put in place to protect users and businesses.

However, over the past year or so we've been continuing to encourage customers to use multi factor authentication, ensuring our customers' access to Microsoft Office 365 isn't compromised by the ever-increasing threat of phishing. Using multi factor authentication removes the security risks we were protecting against, allowing for the use of self-serve resets.

Over the next month or so, we'll be contacting clients who are using multi factor logins to advise that we'll be turning on self-serve password resets for staff. This offers several advantages....

  • Clients can get their passwords reset at anytime, there is no need to contact the SpiderGroup technical support team

  • Clients can complete their own verification process without having to involve their colleagues

  • Password resets will require two verification steps, which must be configured in advance, ensuring a password reset can only be carried out by the owner of the account

What happens next?

We'll be in touch to explain the process to affected customers and check they do want to go ahead. Users will need to complete an enrolment step, so we'll help prepare your staff for this and provide some knowledge base content to help.

If you have any questions or get stuck, our Bristol-based support team are on hand to help as normal.

If you're not currently a client but want to know more about how Microsoft 365 works, or the importance of multi factor authentication, just give us a shout
