Case Study
Getting started in Azure
Global Building Controls wanted to offer their customers a way to remotely manage and monitor their building management systems (BMS) and asked SpiderGroup to help them.
Global Building Controls (GBC) are energy management specialists, GBC focuses entirely on creating efficient, affordable, and easy-to-use lighting, heating, ventilation and climate controls within commercial buildings.
They have vast experience dealing with the Building Management System requirements for a wide variety of commercial sectors, such as Tier 3 Compliant data centres, hospitals, schools, universities and offices – both large and small.
You can find out more about them here: http://gbc-ltd.com/
GBC wanted to offer their customers a cloud-based system which would allow their customers to securely access, monitor and control their BMS systems.
GBC had not used Microsoft Azure before and approached SpiderGroup for help.
After discussing the requirements in detail with GBC we recommended starting with a small-scale setup to pilot and test the solution, ensuring costs were kept to a minimum.
We deployed an Azure virtual machine and configured it for secure remote web access as well as site-to-site VPNs for the BMS control. Within hours, GBC had their BMS system up and running.
“SpiderGroup helped us understand what we needed in Azure. Right from the outset we knew what the costs would be and SpiderGroup were on hand to help us every step of the way."

Azure Resources
GBC have big plans for their new BMS cloud platform. The solution, built in Azure, can easily be scaled as customers are added, ensuring costs and revenue align. Additional VMs in different global regions can be bought online to enable fast, secure access all over the world.
